A young barefoot bladesmith we discovered working in Vietnam uses this interesting source to make some very funky and fun blades for us. And our customers are full of praise for many of their attributes. But let’s get this out of the way—one of these attributes is not fit and finish! They are rough and ready with an emphasis on rough. These are basic blades that will make a great project knife for budding sharpeners or new chefs looking for something to play with. But while the F & F leaves room for improvement the actual grinds of these budget blades is rather special. These knives are sharp and they will cut! Some of them might need a touch on your favorite stone, but a few passes and you will have a razor of a knife on your hands.

The profile of this tall petty is as rounded as we've seen, so it will resonate with the rockers out there. It is a monster at chopping herbs and other small ingredients. Like the blade, the handle is not the best in the industry but a bit of sanding and maybe some varnish and you will have a grip that is easy and secure in your hands.

So if you seek a fun project knife or a cheap and cheerful small ingredient chopper, the Daovua might just be all you need. Plus you get to tell a great story about it and its makers!

      great knife, December 18, 2021

I was not expecting much from a knife in this price point but I was pleasantly surprised! I really like this knife! I also have a santoku I purchased from here a year or so ago but wanted something smaller since I am using it 100% to cut fruits and vegetables daily. This knife is thinner than my santoku but is a great slicer. The handle feels better than the wa handle on the santoku. Just be sure and keep both rubbed with some olive oil or similar oil to keep it from rusting.

sitting next to others that are 2x as much on my rack, this one is my go to for small needs, feels wonderful in the hand, works well, super thin blade that flows through the work like butter... Just a pleasure to use, and amazing for it's price.

Super Handy Little knife, December 27, 2020

This little knife is fantastic. Takes a bit of sharpening to get it where you want it but it keeps an edge for a long time and is great for things like garlic and herbs.

I love this knife (and the Daovua gyoto) so much that I bought two more for Christmas presents! Both the handle and blade are more finished than the description led me to believe. I used my sharpening steel on the bunka and it was beautifully sharp.

      Excellent Knife, August 12, 2020

This is a truly awesome little knife and a great find by the CKTG team!

I gave it a good honing right out of the box and then delivered it to my client who -loves- it. I am professional blacksmith and sharpener, fyi. The knife behaved very nicely on my stones and was able to be brought to shaving sharp very quickly. Very responsive, yet keen edged steel - in short.

The factory grind was entirely decent--and I did not have to reshape or set the bevel in any way. Hnadle is lovely and nice fit and finish.

    Highly recommend this knife!

Exactly what I was looking for, August 1, 2020

I'm petite, so I was looking for a smaller all purpose knife than a gyuto. This one did the trick, it's the perfect size for all the veggie prep I do. I'm a home cook, so I used the sharpening service to get an angle on the blade and it was very worth it. Some dao vuo reviews note quality problems, but mine is well balanced, nice grind, and thin. I heard they provide better quality knives to some distributors, and maybe that's true because mine is in great shape.

I was ready to have to sand down the handle, but mine didn't need it. I just sealed the handle, and I forced a patina. After the patina, it sharpened fine and has held a really great edge for two weeks now. My now-retired line chef father in law is a fan for the price and my home cooking needs.

I bought five of these for me and a bunch of my kitchen coworkers and we all love them there inexpensive great little knives that are all different from each other in there own little way when the add for it discribe dan unfinished knife I was expecting it to well I brought shape. Instead it came pretty much ready to use took it to my wet stone for a little and it was ready to go. Both me and my four coworkers love it. Even had other coworkers ask if I could order more for them!!
