The Leather Sheath for Rods is a simple, practical accessory designed to protect your ceramic or steel honing rod during storage and transport. This sheath fits the CKTG Ceramic Rod, the MAC SRB-104, and both Idahone Ceramic rods (10" and 12"), along with most other standard round honing rods on our site.
Ceramic rods in particular can be prone to chipping or breaking if bumped or dropped, and this leather sheath provides a durable layer of protection to help extend the life of your sharpening tools. It’s a great option for cooks who travel with their gear or keep rods in knife rolls or drawers where they may come into contact with other tools.
In addition to protection, this leather sheath offers a unique secondary use that many people overlook. When the rod is inside the sheath, it creates a firm, supported surface that can be used as a strop. By using light, edge-trailing strokes along the leather, you can refine and maintain your edge between sharpenings. This makes it a handy two-in-one tool for both transport and quick touch-ups in the kitchen.
Care Instructions: Keep dry when not in use. If the leather becomes wet, allow it to air dry completely. Occasional conditioning with leather balm will help maintain flexibility and longevity.

It fits well to my Wusthof extra fine ceramic sharpening rod. However, every time I take the rod out of the leather sheath, something like leather fell down as inside is quite rough, not smooth. It's quite a lot. So I always take out the rod and blow inside so that the something like dust can come out. Hopefully 100 days later, I'll be able to get rid of them.

If you are looking for a tight-fitting sheath for your rod, this will do the trick. Not absolutely necessary, but walking into someones kitchen, unrolling your kit, and unsheathing your rod as they watch in wonder is a great feeling, not gonna lie. But seriously this thing does help protect agains the harder bumps, and makes me feel more comfortable taking the honing rod places.

It's the only leather sleeve protector I have found for a homing rod, and it's nice. I bought for my thicker black ceramic rods and the sleeve works perfect for those. It's a tight fit at first, but after a week, it fits like a glove

Works fine (but takes a little work)!Posted By: Jerry S - verified customer

I ordered the sheath to protect the CKTG black ceramic rod-not the Idahone rod for which it is made. The black CKTG rod has a slightly greater circumference than the idahone rod so it is a tight fit. It does take a little time to work the sheath using the black ceramic rod to help stretch the material. After a few passes it works just fine, and I would not hesitate to recommend it. Just be prepared to work the rod/sheath combination a little, to ensure a fit, and not expect a perfect fit right out of the box
