These new blades are so well made and executed we continue to be impressed and amazed at the overall quality of his work.

The blade is quite thin at the spine and after the high transition to the primary blade road, it thins out even more in a most satisfying way. One look at the choil shot will clearly illustrate the wonderfully thin and precise grind achieved by this budding master.

Makoto-san is using a new stainless steel for him called VG7 which is made by the Takefu Special Steel Company. The blades are clad with stainless steel.

The blades are beautifully finished, as are all of his knives. These are further enhanced by some well-executed kanji elements—a great touch and a great new knife.

      Fantastic knife!

Fantastic knife at a great price. Still getting accustomed to this knife after 5 years of using 2 Kohetsu AS gyutos. Decided to go with something new and different. Not as light as my Kohetsu, but not a heavyweight at all. This knife has a taller profile which is quite nice! Handles vegetable prep with ease. My only complaint is I wish the spine edge and choil were a little more polished. Otherwise, a very beautiful knife! The red ferrule against the maple handle is gorgeous! Finish on the blade is also a real showstopper!

      Beautiful knife!

I plan on using this knife as my main workhorse at work. Fit and finish is fantastic. Nice weight and nice and sharp out of the box. Had a touch of wedging with the first onion I cut, but that’s being very critical and looking for something negative. I plan on retiring my Kohetsu Aogami Super and wanted something different this time around. Not as thin as my Kohetsu and a touch heavier. So used to the thinness of the Kohetsu, that this knife will take a slight amount of adjusting. Beautiful construction and the red ferrule really makes this knife pop.

This is my 1st laser type Gyuto and I absolutely love it. Light weight, nimble, simple elegance.... just flies through onions, potatoes, everything. The finish is perfect and the patina on the AS steel is beautiful. Highly recommended!

      Well Made, Sharp, and Beautiful

I gave this knife as a gift to a very dear friend for Christmas 2019... I finally bought one for myself last week, and I'm glad I did. If it has any downside, it's that food does adhere to it a bit more than I'd like. Seems to be easing up after a few uses though. The core steel edge is developing a really nice patina after a few uses, but has not been over-active in terms of rust forming (no rust yet!)

I've got more than several wonderful knives, but I almost always reach for this one!! Best all around gyuto I've ever owned. Love the AS steel! Gets extremely sharp and stays that way better than almost any other knife I own. For the price it's the best deal on the site, in my opinion

Huge Fan and A Wonderful Knife

This is my favorite knife hands down. Wonderful craftsmanship. Can get very sharp. Aogami Super to boot. Crazy value for what you get. A new up and coming blacksmith with some serious talent at a discount. You cant go wrong with this knife. I still cant believe the value for the price. For comparison I own a takeda (another excellent knife and my other fav) and this blade goes neck and neck with it.

    Buy this knife!

I'm really impressed with the both look and performance of this knife. It feels comfortable in my hand and effortlessly falls through tomatoes after I took the edge to a Suehiro Rika 5k and leather strop loaded with green compound. The AS steel near the edge has developed a really nice patina. I highly recommend it.

My first AS steel knife and what a beauty. Performs really well, super sharp out of the box, lightweight and well balanced. Very smooth gently curving belly does great with push cuts as well as very smooth rock cuts. Am glad I decided to get this... Will be a keeper for a long long time.

My 210 is such a beautiful knife, I was reluctant to throw it into battle. The finish is flawless and the polished choil and spine are nicely rounded, very comfortable on the fingers. Cuts like nothing I have ever owned. I had lots of questions and specific requirements and Mark patiently pointed me toward several options. Thank you Mark for your advice and one of a kind customer service!

      Makoto Ryusei Gyuto 210mm
Posted By: @just_broome - verified customer

I bought 2 of these and gave one as a gift. The recipients response was "It's a different experience cutting with this knife". I would agree a good knife is a different experience and this gyuto is exceptional. The one I kept was not super tight fight in the handle, but it settled in and the clicking sound when the blade was flexed side to side I heard when I first received the knife actually went away and there is no issue with a lose blade in the handle (again, no longer an issue). Not a $1000 knife level fit and finish, but it's good and the blade *is* exceptional. Love the grind on it! I am pleased with the purchase and would recommend!

I had the 240 and wanted this 210 to match, plus it was on sale. Makoto has become my favorite blacksmith, but not just for the price his knives sell for. The craftsmanship in the Ryusei line and W
