Every other CCK cleaver in the lineup follows the same general template: tall, flat, rectangular, built for push cuts and board contact. The Lil Rhino throws that template out entirely. Named for its resemblance to a rhinoceros horn, this is a curved, pointed carbon steel blade that brings a completely different set of skills to the cutting board. It is not a substitute for the KF1303 or the KF1912 - it is something else, a tool with its own logic and its own rewards for cooks willing to learn it.
Chan Chi Kee has been producing Chinese kitchen knives in Hong Kong for generations, and the Lil Rhino represents the more unconventional end of their range. The curved edge runs all the way to the pointed tip, giving you more usable edge length than the profile might suggest - useful for portioning fillets, working between bones, removing skin, and making drawing cuts that a flat cleaver simply cannot execute. The pointed tip gets into tight spaces with ease. At 215mm and 240g it is compact and lighter than it looks, and the carbon steel blade sharpens effortlessly, taking a keen edge on basic stones and holding it through hard use. Fit and finish are utilitarian rather than refined, which is exactly what you should expect from a working tool at this level. Note that finish sharpening service is not available for this knife, and the standard CKTG cleaver saya does not fit this model.
What Customers Are Saying: Reviewers consistently describe the Lil Rhino as a knife that starts as a curiosity and ends up as a kitchen staple. Several bought it on impulse for the look alone and found themselves reaching for it daily. The edge gets high marks across the board - the carbon steel sharpens quickly and holds well, with multiple owners noting it performs at a level well above its price point. Professional cooks mention using it through full shifts and having coworkers ask about it. The curved profile takes a session or two to get comfortable with, particularly for cooks accustomed to flat-edge technique, but those who put in the time consistently report it becoming one of the most versatile knives they own. The pointed tip draws specific praise for its usefulness on proteins and fish.
Care Instructions: The Lil Rhino is made from carbon steel and will develop a patina with regular use. Wipe and dry the blade after every use and avoid leaving it wet or in contact with acidic foods for any length of time. Hand wash only - no dishwasher. Apply a light coat of camellia oil before storage, especially if the knife will sit unused for more than a few days. Use wood or rubber cutting boards to protect the edge and avoid lateral stress on the blade during use.

My wife gifted me this cleaver and i love how it looks and cuts, it's very unique in terms of design, it fits perfectly In my hand and it feels light for it's size, I only gave it 4 stars because there are parts of the knife that are sharp and some parts are dull, but it was an easy fix when I sharpened it myself.

I felt a little awkward getting used to the shadow of this knife, I expected to do more rocking cuts with it, which is not my usual style, but the curve is extreme for that. The top is excellent for push cutting and it's a short very effective cleaver behind that.
Arrived sharp but a little rough for my liking. The most amazing thing about this knife to me has been absolutely effortless sharpening. It gets a razor edge that holds really well with almost no time or effort.

I bought this more as a fun toy to use in the kitchen, but it has started to turn into one of my main work horses. Handling took a little while to get used to, the point ins't in spot that feels particularly useful. Once you understand the curved edge and the rocking motion, this knife can be a beast.

I have admired this knife for a while, and I am very pleased that I went ahead and ordered one. I use the CCK small cleaver very frequently, and I have been alternating the Li'l Rhino in a lot of general prep tasks. It's a pleasure to use, and takes and holds a very good edge. I only recently started using it as well for meat and poultry, and can affirm that it does a fine job there. Fit and finish is what I expect from a CCK knife - fun and functional, not fancy. Would absolutely recommend.

Been wanting one of these for a few years now ever since seeing it on here. Got one about 3 months ago, and has been a solid addition to my bag. Came in pretty sharp, I got it sharper. Steel is easy to work with on my stones (1k/6k)
Fit and finish leaves something to be desired but it cost 50 so I can really be concerned. Belly of the blade does not end up flush, which results in some accordion cuts when chopping. With a few more sharpens I will have that even, but a little disappointing OOTB. Pretty reactive, be on top of keeping it clean.
Fun knife, easy to sharpen, and everyone in the kitchen thinks its cool.

Didn't come particularly sharp, but took a great edge. It gets as sharp as knives I've paid hundreds for an performs just as well. After a shift and a lot of abuse it's kept a solid edge. A few of my coworkers want one too after using it too.My only complaint is the unfinished wooden handle.

Bought the knife to use for an at home protein prep knife. Great for taking apart chickens and small game but at the same time totally suitable for s quick vegetable chop and has a great edge. The pointed tip is really good for getting into small areas and the knife itself has kept a great look to it without any special care other than wiping after use. Really great first cleaver experience!

I bought this knife as a Christmas present for my best friend. He's a chef that's moving up in the world of food, and training like a madman at 2 different kitchens. Both kitchens are small, so I selected this knife for it's versatility. What was surprising was how much chefknivestogo.com went beyond the call of duty. I ordered the knife late before Christmas, and it got to my friend on Christmas Eve. I was blown away that it made it there so fast! He opened it and was stunned at how rustic but sophisticated the blade looked. Then he sat and honed the knife with some ceramic, and played with some apples to get a feel for the blade. He's in love with it and says it will probably quickly become his favorite knife. He described the cleaver as light weight and easy to yield, yet heavy enough to do some damage. I'm not a chef so I have no idea what the technical description or use would be for something like this. But he seemed extremely pleasedwhich is all that matters to me. Thank you chefknivestogo.com for being so awesome. Maybe I'll order myself one of these bad boys for cooking on the go here in Europe :)

I bought this just to have something to mess around with. It's relatively sharp out of the box, but I touched it up a bit and it took a mean edge. the fit a finish are good, but utilitarian. It's lighter then it looks, and get quite thin at the edge. Over all, I'm rather happy I bought this, and would definitly suggest it.

Just got this knife in today and I'm already in love with it. It's very rough-'n'-tumble in terms of finish, but feels so practical in-handespecially for my small kitchen workspace. I do a lot of my vegetable and protein prep on a narrow kitchen cart wedged up next to my fridge, and where my traditional, boxy Chinese cleaver doesn't always have the room to maneuver there, this knife feels almost compact because of its rounded edge. It speeds through onions with a rocking slice and I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces.

I bought this knife on impulse because it's cool looking. I find my self using it a lot more than I thought I would, It chops great I also have found that this knife can be held almost like a pen and the forward edge can be used to peel celleriac and large turnips. All around a fun and useful knife the steel easely takes a keen edge.

I picked up one of these years ago on a trip to Hong Kong. The edge wraps around all the way to the tip, giving you a longer edge than a standard cleaver, making it very useful for slicing cuts such as portioning fillets. Also useful for hanging style cuts as the forward edge is in a more comfortable position. Use it by making a cut drawing the blade towards you, flexing the wrist as you approach the tip.---Ken
