The Ogata White #2 Petty 150mm is another new knife being made for us by young artisan blacksmith Syungo Ogata.

Ogata-san uses White #2 steel as his core steel in the construction of this line of knives. He hardens the alloy to 61-62 Rockwell and then hammer forges a Damascus outer layer of soft iron to protect and strengthen the blade. The upper portion of the blade is further treated to a really unique kurouchi finish which he calls Lightning Kurouchi. The secondary grind is where the Damascus shows through leading to the primary grind which reveals the core Shirogami 2 steel edge. It is a fascinating look and one we find to be very handsome, in a rugged kind of way!

150mm petties are such adaptable and useful knives. They are at home cutting almost any ingredient and excel at processing smaller items and prepping.

The good looking blade is complemented with the addition of a nicely finished rosewood handle which adds a simple and traditional look to the design of this well-made knife. We are really pleased with the knives Ogata-san is producing for us and expect to add more varieties to the line in the future.

Been waiting for this one for awhile and I have to say, it was definitely worth the wait. Sharp out of the box, looks even better in person.

5  One of my go to knives, April 8, 2019

Has become one of my go to knives since it arrived in my kitchen. I find it beautifully light and balanced to use and visually very attractive. Very handy for small slicing jobs and many times first out of my block simply because it feels so nice in my hand. Has had one major trip to my stones for sharpening after prolonged use. Sharpened easily to better than new. Was slightly asymmetrical which I maintained when sharpening. It may sound silly but this knife never fails to leave a smile on my face after using but I guess that’s one of the reasons it is a “go to” knife in my kitchen.

At first look I thought this knife was way to beautiful to use. But if I can use my Tanaka petty, I can use this one also. F&F is exceptional. the kurochi finish on the blade is uniform, heavy, and well executed. Heavier textured than I was expecting, but not unpleasant. Super sharp OOTB. Starting to take on an "oil sheen" Patina after slicin' n dicen a couple of onions. The quality of this knife makes me want to try some of his larger blades.Frank K

This knife is a really good deal. Super sharp OOTB!! It has a really nice grind, and narrows very fine towards the tip. The finish is a lot more textured than I expected, but it adds a lot of nice grip and feel in the hand for those who use a modified or pinch grip. The fit and finish is extremely smooth between the handles main wood and the ferrule. I am glad that I purchased this knife
