Furusawa has forged tools in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture since 1912, when Ichimatsu Furusawa opened his blacksmith shop. The shop started with handles for Nambu iron kettles, moved on to pruning shears, and added bonsai shears and angled nail clippers in the 1960s.
These nippers are forged from steel and finished with a black oxide treatment, called kurozome in Japan, that gives them a dark, matte look. A coil spring opens the handles after every cut, and the ends of the handles carry a cross hatched texture for a secure grip.
Each pair is stamped Made in Japan and comes in a Furusawa gray gift box, so it is ready to give.
