Walnut turns a magnetic knife rack into a small piece of furniture. This 12 in Mag-Blok has the deep chocolate brown tone and soft, flowing grain that make walnut a favorite for cabinetry, and it puts that richness on a kitchen wall where your knives will stay within easy reach and out of the drawer.
Finish It Yourself: The walnut arrives unfinished, with a full tube of Blok-Butter included so you can finish it at home. Rub it in with a cloth and the grain deepens to a rich satin glow, or stain the wood first for a different tone. Unfinished walnut looks lighter than the photos until it is treated.
The block is solid walnut with rare earth magnets set inside to grip blades along its length, made by Benchcrafted in the USA. Walnut tends to darken and richen with age and sunlight, and the finish will bring out the figure in the grain, so a block that looks pale on arrival will deepen once treated and displayed.
The 12 in length is the compact choice at 2 in tall and 3/4 in thick. It suits a kitchen with limited wall space, a spot beside the range, or a smaller collection of everyday knives. Solid brass mounting screws are included, and the block can also hold other magnet friendly tools.
Care Instructions: Wipe on Blok-Butter and buff off the extra, repeating when the surface starts to look dull. Walnut will darken over time, which is normal. Keep the block dry, and avoid hanging a wet blade on it.
