The Shapton Professional series - also sold as Kuromaku Professional, the same stone under a different name - is one of the most widely used synthetic sharpening stone lines in the world. Designed and manufactured in Japan, these stones are hard, fast-cutting, and extremely slow to dish. They are splash-and-go: no soaking required, just add water and start sharpening. Each stone is color-coded by grit and comes in a lightweight slotted storage case that doubles as a stone holder during use. CKTG is a registered Shapton distributor importing directly from Japan and provides warranty support. The combination of cutting speed, durability, and predictable grit-to-grit behavior makes the Shapton Pro the default recommendation for cooks who want a no-fuss, high-performance sharpening stone that will last for years.
The 8,000-grit Pro is the finishing stone for sharpeners who want more refinement than a 5K produces. After a 5K session this stone refines the edge to a high polish level suited for fine slicing work, single-bevel knives, and applications where a mirror-quality edge is preferred. For many experienced sharpeners who own the full Shapton Pro range, the 8K is where they stop - it produces a level of finish that makes a 10K or 12K unnecessary for kitchen knife work. The hard Shapton ceramic bond at this grit level provides less tactile feedback than softer stones but cuts with exceptional consistency and does not clog or dry up during use. Comes in the color-coded Melon (orange) case. 8.25" x 2.75".
What Customers Are Saying: Nine reviewers with strong endorsements. Described as hard to beat for an 8K polishing stone - does not clog, leaves a finer scratch pattern than comparable 8K stones, and is the preferred stopping point for experienced sharpeners who own the complete line. The resin-based ceramic matrix produces a different feel than natural stones but the results are highly consistent.
Care Instructions: Splash-and-go - no soaking required. Add water during use as needed. Flatten with a diamond plate when the stone develops a dish. The hard ceramic bond means these dish slowly but they should still be checked regularly. Store in the included case with the vented lid to allow drying.

Hard to beat the shapton 8000 fine polish stone. Doesnt clog or dry up and leaves a finer scratch patten than other 8000 man made stones I have. The resign base ceramic matrix of course make it feels more artififial than other non ceramic made stones...so the slurry is less natural and the feedback different..but makes fast work of polishing my japanese plans and chisels.

I have the complete line and unless ur going for the uber shine 8k stone is my stopping place. This thing polishes and puts the final cut on the edge that makes it perfect couldt live or sharpen without it. Espically cpm154
