These are in high demand--limit two per customer.
It's hard to believe that the skilled craftsmen at Masutani can create these high-value kitchen knives using quality steels and materials for such amazing prices.
Using the very popular stainless steel known as VG10 as the core of the blade, they laminate the steel with an outer layer of a Damascus finish soft stainless steel. Then they laser cut the knife from this pre-forged sheet and apply some very well-done grinds and edges. Our customers and reviewers are already singing the praises of these knives, and rightly so.
The nakiri that we are featuring here is pretty standard fare as far as overall dimensions go. They are naturally thin knives, created to perfectly slice through vegetables and fruits of all hardnesses. It has an average length blade at 165mm and occupies the midpoint of the scale in terms of height. The grinds are very well executed. The heat treat is kept to a low 60 HRC to prevent chipping. And the well-made handle and bolster give the blade a secure and comfortable feel.
All around, this is an outstanding knife that would be a great addition to any kitchen or chef's knife roll, especially if one is looking for great bang for the buck and ease of maintenance characteristics. Highly recommended.Maker: Masutani

If you use pinch grip this nakiri is perfect. If you have bigger hands the height will be a bit awkward. After spending 10 min on the whetstone this retains an amazing edge. Best bang for the $. Five stars!

Very happy with this knife. The slightly front-heavy balance is very comfortable and conducive to easy chopping. Absolutely beautiful cladding. Super light-weight and nimble. Very sharp and thin blade for precise and easy cuts. The handle is beautiful, much more-so in person than in pictures. I think a thicker handle would've been more comfortable, but it's still nice. Overall just feels like a great handmade knife, very high quality, and really enjoyable to use.

Not bad for the money!Posted By: Adam - verified customer

This is a solid, good little knife. You know you can spend three or four times as much, but this is a good little workhorse nonetheless.
Packaging was standard yet attractive, suitable for gifting.
The fit and finish has minor issues - gaps where the bolster meets the blade/tang, residue (maybe wood oil? Maybe a polishing compound?) around the handle rivets, rough edges here and there - all solved with some light filing and sanding. Not that you'd need to, but I had fun with it.
Blade is very attractive, sharp enough out of the box and took a new edge well after a week of chopping root veggies.
Overall I'm quite pleased for the money and would recommend it to anyone not looking to spend more than 100 bucks!

Really impressed with this knife, especially given the price point. Razor sharp out of the box, fit and finish are really good, and the performance is outstanding. Easy to care for and is a good looking blade as well. Highly recommend!
