Yoshimitsu Tamahagane Gyuto 210mm. We receive just a few of these blades made with true Tamahagane steel. The invention of this steel hundreds of years ago from Yusuke iron sands launched the Japanese into modernity and for a time they were the best sword makers in the world (many think they still are). The tradition of making Tamahagane steel has been ritualized and craftsman from the region make about a ton of this steel every year in a ceremony using techniques that have been passed down for many generations. The steel is then sold in small allotments to master swordmakers and blacksmiths for use primarily in Japanese Katanas. Yoshimitsu is a small blacksmith in the region and has from time to time gotten small quantities of the steel and they were kind enough to use all of it in the production of a few blades exclusively for CKTG.

The Yoshimitsu brothers make their own Hagane and Jigane, and also do their own cladding. It's amazing that they can take sand iron and turn it into these knives but please be aware that There are often hammer marks and small scratches in the cladding and this is considered normal for these knives.

    5  A amusing knife, August 22, 2017
Posted By: Dan F. - verified customer

Honestly, the knife is not super sharp and edge retention is no better than average. However, the blade and handle had been forged in an amusing balanced manner such that it feels so good to use - both my wife and I felt the same.
