The Naniwa Super Stone line sits near the top of what Naniwa makes - high-quality ceramic compound stones at 20mm thickness that outlast most cheaper stones sold at 10mm. CKTG is the sole North American distributor. The ceramic formulation strikes a balance between polishing ability and durability: these stones tend to run on the softer side, which means they dish more readily than harder stones like the Shapton Pro but also feel more responsive and give better tactile feedback during sharpening. Splash-and-go use - no soaking required. Flatten regularly with a diamond plate when dishing develops.

The 8K Super Stone is a high-grit finishing stone for cooks who want a polished, refined edge beyond what a 5K produces. It is the right stone for fine work on fish knives, single-bevel blades, and any knife where edge refinement directly affects cutting quality. After a 5K or 6K session the 8K removes the remaining scratch pattern and leaves a light mirror surface that tracks cleanly through soft proteins and performs well on precision vegetable cuts. The softer Super Stone bond provides strong tactile feedback - you can feel the edge developing as you work. No soaking required. 210mm x 70mm x 20mm.

What Customers Are Saying: Four reviewers confirm strong polishing performance. Described as a capable 8K that produces a noticeably refined edge after a mid-grit session - recommended as a finishing stone for anyone who wants more refinement than a 5K without going to an ultra-fine 10K or 12K.

Care Instructions: Splash-and-go - no soaking required. Add water during sharpening as needed. Flatten with a diamond plate when dishing develops. Store dry.

  Naniwa "Advance" 8k, February 14, 2026
Posted By: Ryan R

I usually wait at least a few months to leave reviews for stones until I've really had a chance to put them through their paces. I have 2 other stones from this line to compare it to, a 3k "Super Stone" marked stone on a stand that came in the green, Kanji marked box, and a 12k "Gouken Kagayaki" stone for my razors. Apparently the Kagayaki are the Japanese domestic version of these, but after using this I'm not so sure they're identical. I can't say without buying the exact same grit which I'm not going to do. But compared to those, this 8k Advance is significantly harder, doesn't load quite as heavily, and has a slightly different feeling and feedback. It still has the "really hard eraser" feeling that fans of the Super Stones are familiar with, though. It seems to get the job done fast for such a fine stone. It holds water on the surface much better than the Kagayaki, which oddly kind of lets water fall through it like a coarse soaking stone and overall the Advance just feels harder and denser. The edges I'm getting off of this 8k are insane. I've owned 4 other 8ks, so it's not like I've always used a 1k and I'm now blown away by my first 8k. Honestly, some of the keenest edges I've ever produced in about 2 decades of sharpening. It produces a mirror finish and edges that wittle free hanging hair effortlessly without ever touching a strop. I have no doubt I could finish my razor on this and get a good shave. I'm very happy with it, and as always from ChefKnivesToGo, it was packed very well and shipped quickly. It looks like I have a new favorite 8k

This is a really nice fine stone that I use to strop my knives on. The only problem I have with it is the amount of loading the stone takes on its surface. I find myself needing to clean the stone about 2 maybe 3 times to finish a knife cause the cut speed drops substantially. Other then that it's a really good stone. It's a very fine stone for the money you pay. All and all I'm happy with it

Bright yellow color is just great. The creamiest feedback of the super stone line. For doing razors, this is your refresh stone/pre polisher to a natural finish. In a synthetic progression at this stage things really come along. It is quite soft, and not at all muddy. Absolute please to use. Very fun slurry if you wish to sharpen with some. A regular use tool for me.
