Anryu is the maker of the Masakage Mizu line of knives. They feature blue #2 Steel with Rockwell Hardness 61:63. They're excellent knives for the money and have a nice looking kurouchi finish.

Please note there is a "step" or "ridge" between the handle and the ferrule and this is a common complaint. It's not a defect, it's how they're made.

To be honest the main reason I bought this is for the connection to Katsushige Anryu's blacksmith shop. As a knife, it gets the essentials right—nice steel and a good grind. There are aspects of the fit and finish that are reminders you didn't pay an arm and a leg. It looks to be a fine daily driver, an all-arounder you don't have to baby. But that connection to a centuries-old tradition is what makes it special to me.

For the price on this line of knives the quality is amazing. i own some others that i payed closer to two hundred for and this one is better than the others. The edge on mine when I received it was very sharp only someone well practiced in sharping is going to be able to get it any sharper. If your trying to decide between a couple different line of knives pick this one you will not be disappointed.
