The handle is shaped *just right* so that it's difficult to pick up off a flat surface. You just can't quite get your fingers under it, then you have to change your grip to get a finger under the blade, then lift it, then shift your grip to actually hold it.
The handle is quite comfortable to hold while using, but the entire purpose of this is to pick it up, scoop up some diced whatever, then set it down again... it's a problem. You'll get in the habit of propping it up or setting it halfway on a cutting board or plate (like in the picture!) so you can actually pick it up..
