The Atoma replacement pad is the diamond abrasive sheet only - without the aluminum base plate. It is designed for sharpeners who already own the Atoma base and need to replace the worn diamond surface, or who want to mount the pad to their own flat plate or holder. The diamond abrasive is arranged in Atoma dot matrix pattern on a stainless steel sheet: the open dot layout clears swarf and slurry efficiently, reduces suction during stone flattening, and produces a more consistent scratch pattern than solid-surface diamond plates. The 400-grit pad is the maintenance flattening choice in the Atoma replacement range - less aggressive than the 140, producing a finer scratch pattern on the stone surface after lapping. For sharpeners who flatten regularly and want the stone surface left in better condition after each session, the 400-grit pad is the appropriate choice over the 140. It also works well for direct edge work on knives, particularly for bevel setting and light chip repair where a 140-grit scratch pattern would be unnecessarily coarse.
