The 220mm guard is the workhorse of the CKTG felt knife guard line - sized to fit santokus, bunkas, nakiris, and the short end of the gyuto range in one. At 50mm (2 inches) tall it covers a generous section of blade road along with the edge, keeping knives protected in drawers, rolls, and bags without adding meaningful bulk. The construction that makes this guard worth buying over cheaper alternatives is the felt lining: dense enough to protect the edge from the plastic shell, soft enough that it will not scratch even a mirror-polished blade.
With over 30 reviews this is the most frequently purchased size in the line, and the consistent theme across all of them is that these guards perform at or above the level of alternatives that cost significantly more. One reviewer who sharpens for family and friends sends knives back in CKTG guards because everyone loves receiving them. Another buys a matching guard for every new knife he purchases as a matter of routine. The felt-lined interior can also be lightly oiled without issue - useful for long-term storage of carbon steel blades.
What Customers Are Saying: Paul Frontiero calls these the best blade guards on the market - nobody comes close. He notes you can even apply a light oil to the felt interior with no ill effect, useful for carbon steel storage. Daniel Peristere sees no difference between these and guards sold by other vendors at much higher prices - fit and finish is excellent and he buys one to match every new knife. Mike Hansen keeps one on every knife in his roll for travel to class, kitchen duty, and family events. Jared Aragon, coming from cheaper guards, was most pleasantly surprised by the sturdiness and quality - noticeably better than what he already had. Jeff Guerin called it amazing on his first CKTG order and praised the fast shipping.
Care Instructions: Always install with the spine exposed and the cutting edge fully covered by the felt lining. Dry knives thoroughly before placing them in the guard. The felt interior can be lightly oiled for carbon steel storage. Clean the interior felt occasionally with a dry cloth.

A protective Knife Necessity, June 14, 2022Posted By: Mike Hansen
I have one of these knife guards for each of the knives iin my knife roll. When called upon to take my chef skills for kitchen duties, class teaching, or traveling to family get togethers, I remove my knives from my Jones Knife Block (a CKTG purchase as well) - this is their usual home. I put on one of these felt knife guards, and put the needed knives into my knife roll.
The guards not only protect the knife edges, they also prevent the knives from damaging the knife roll, a thing which has occurred in the past. Even if you store your knives in a kitchen drawer (heaven forbid such a thing 🤬) they will work there as well - protecting knife edges and even more importantly fingers!!.

Ran a few test cuts and it is very sharp. I love the size and balance. shipping was super fast. The edge was burr free so my test cuts were very smooth. There was ample hand room so as to not bottom my knuckles out on the cutting board during use. It is the first high quality chef knife we have ever purchased. I now know why people rave about them

These guards are perfect fit for a knife. Hard on outside, soft on inside, it cradles your blade softly while protecting it from anything on the outside. It's light, stylish and well-made. Like all that is CKTG it's exactly what you need to get the job done.

Stiff in the begging but loose after usePosted By: Mikael Manukyan - verified customer

The guard is a nice addition for the knife if you don't have a place to keep your knife and just put it in the drawer. The guard was stiff in the beginning which I liked as it'd prevent accidental exposure of the blade but it become loose after a few weeks of using it.

These Knife Guards are made of strong plastic with a tight fit and a good price. I Bought 10 of these guards and they were all delivered as promised and described. Now I need a guard for a Deba; Sayas are expensive.

rustic fun knifePosted By: minyan - verified customer
Very rough knife with a cool story and great light feel. My example was very warped on the bevel and looked just generally sloppy. After some work on the sander to take out the sloppy hollow grind, I was able to sharpen it to a great edge. also take some time to grind off rough steel on the spine and it becomes a really great fun knife with great cutting potential.
