This nice slicer is a new addition to the fine line of kitchen knives made by blacksmith Michikuni Tokaji. This talented blacksmith hand forges these blades in his shop located in Tosa, Kochi Prefecture. He is one of a collective of blacksmiths that make the Zakuri branded knives.

Blue Paper #1 steel is a favorite with knife sharpeners. It produces an excellent edge, holde its edge well, yet is still relatively easy to sharpen. The blade is clad with a soft iron laminate that has the carbon forging scale left on. This kurouchi finish adds a fine aesthetic look to the blade while adding another level of protection to the reactive iron.

Long petty knives are a unique category of knives. They are essentially short sujihikis. These long petties are gaining in popularity for their abilities in the kitchen.

The blade is mated to a nicely made oval handle fashioned from rosewood and black pakka wood. Overall this is a wonderful knife fit for many uses and tasks. It is well made, great looking, and comes in at a very attractive price.

    5  Beautiful specialty knife, May 11, 2020

So I bought the 150mm Zakuri petty. Saw an ad on Facebook and it sucked me in. Dark handle and wood are so pretty. I collect knives so didn't have a need for this but wanted it. Easy to get an edge and it retains it. A few swipes with a ceramic steel and it back to razor sharp. If you're doing delicate slicing the tip is so easy to manipulate. I can almost slice an avocado paper thin. One of my favorite knives is a vintage K Sabatier and the tip of that knife makes fine dicing a breeze. This knife is even better for more delicate work and handles like a dream.

Very nice knife for the money. Fit and finish are as good as Moritaka or any other known maker out there. Came extremely sharp, use it in a high volume professional kitchen. Stands up to everything I throw at it and is still extremely sharp. Great little knife!!

This is a fine knife for the price! The fit and finish are way above what youd expect in a knife at this price point. Came razor sharp and the blue #1 sharpens up very quickly on the stones. I used this only for about three days, purposely neglecting the regular knives and it handles mostly everything very well. Great little knife to add to the kit.
