We were able to get a screaming deal on this Tojiro VG1 Nakiri 165mm. We had to buy a bunch of them to be able to offer them at this price. Nakiris are excellent general purpose knives that are the second most popular knife style sold in Japan behind the Santoku style. If you go into a Japanese home kitchen this is the type of knife you will typically find. The blade is made from good quality VG1 stainless steel and if you notice on the choil picture the knife is ground really well for excellent cutting action.

The blade has a chestnut oval handle and a black plastic ferrule. Here are the specs. Another great knife from our friends at Tojiro.

  • Maker: Tojiro
  • Location: Sanjo City
  • Construction: Laser Cut Mono Steel
  • Edge Steel: VG1
  • Weight: 132g / 4.6oz
  • Blade Length: 160mm
  • Blade Height: 50mm
  • Overall Length: 300mm
  • Edge: Even Grind
  • Handle: Chestnut Oval
  • Ferrule: Black Plastic

5  Great knife for the price , September 25, 2020

Razor sharp out of the box and feels good in my hand. I like the rounded tip too. Not sure it's a "real" Tojiro but still exceeds my expectations at this price

I ordered this for vegetable and herb chopping/dicing/mincing duty as my lack of technique was resulting in chips in my blue steel#2 gyuto. I now use it more than my gyuto, even for slicing and dicing boneless chicken breasts. The blade edge has maintained sharpness very well with no chipping. I liked it so much I bought one for my son (as part of a three knife set wedding present). At this price, it's a must have!

I bought this Nakiri as a tough workhorse alongside a Kurosaki gyuto. It is exactly that. Sharp out of the box and is tough. Love it for dicing through herbs and chopping veggies. Trustworthy and a hell of a value.

5  Not only great for the price - just great!, August 2, 2020

Love this knife. Edge holding is great. Great balance between hardness and edge retention, as I have had no issues with chipping yet very little work with a ceramic hone keeps it very sharp (I don't have the greatest technique and my blue steel #2 gyuto sometimes gets chips). My go to knife for vege prep!
