Mr. Kuwabara is a blacksmith from Nagasaki and unfortunately, we started dealing his knives after my trip down to this area so I didn't have the opportunity to meet him in person or view his shop.

This tall petty is excellent at a variety of tasks. The shape allows you to use the knife for chipping and cutting on the board with ample knuckle clearance. The small size gives you control that is hard to achieve with a larger knife so fine mincing is a breeze.

The steel Kuwabara san uses is White #2 carbon steel and the knife is hammer forged with soft iron cladding. They come with nice walnut octagonal handles. For care simple wipe it dry after washing the blade to keep it from rusting.

Picked up this knife a couple weeks ago and I've had a lot of fun with it. Had to take it to the stones to clean up a tiny chip at the heel but nbd. This thing gets sharp and works through small produce and herbs with ease. The fit and finish isn't super refined which is the reason for the 4-star review but personally, I really like the rustic nature; makes you feel a connection to the maker. Highly recommend this fun little knife.

After many much larger knives, my first petty, and what a great addition. Slice or mince a couple cloves of garlic. Rock over some parsley leaves for a quick finishing garnish. I've been reaching for this little knife every time. Just enough belly to rock lightly but enough flat to contact the board smoothly, and a tip that can draw and score with great precision. Tall enough for some good clearance and plenty of room for a secure pinch. This one's a winner.

Stout little petty that is a really great value, March 31, 2021

This is a cool little knife. It's called a tall petty, but it feels like a very small gyuto. The blade is fairly stout, and beautifully finished. Overall, the knife and handle seem very well made. The handle is comfortable, even in my largish hands, and the fit and finish is really good. I asked for the Finish Sharpening Service and the blade had a pleasant, toothy feel when cutting. This will be a super handy utility knife for prepping small amounts of vegetables, etc.

The knife is gorgeous and I love it. The only thing keeping it from being perfect was it needs a good sharpening before use to address a barely visible chip in the heel and a somewhat dull edge (wouldn't slice through a bell pepper skin).
