Certain knives possess a look that defies the normal descriptions. They are singular pieces of the forgerís art, combining the basic form required of a superior cutting tool with the visual impact of a fine sculpture or painting.
Sporting a Parkerized black-look blade and a handle that looks like it grew out of that blackness, this stunning nakiri knife is a one-off salute to the art and skills of the blacksmith. The sensitivity of material choices and the way in which Steve Grosvenor has respected and honored them is most apparent in this truly beautiful knife.
The blade has been made from a single piece of W2 steel using a stock removal method. W2 is a water-quenching steel that is used to make swords and larger blades. This steel is malleable, easy to work with, and will hold a good edge, while being moderately tough if heat treated well.
This is a large nakiri (most fall in the 165mm-180mm range). It is also quite tall, even for a blade of this length. But as with most nakiri knives it is ground very thin at the edge, almost laser like. It has a very flat edge profile virtually all the way to the barely rounded tip. The knife has a full tang with a beautiful sculpted western handle made from stabilized custom burl.

CKTG is at heart a small business so the service is personal. They are one of the rare companies that actually dispatch the order the same day as receiving it and provide tracking information. It is great to deal with an individual by name and itís evident that they take pride and love in what they do.
Had a problem with one of the products and they went out of their way to resolve. I would highly recommend dealing with this company. Itís nice to find a company who cares and they will get me as a return customer.
Mark is great at answering questions for knife nuts of all levels. His service is second to none. Really appreciate the time he puts into every email as well as the free forum he hosts.
