Noah B.This was my first foray into single bevel knives, which took some getting used to (I didn't realize how unnatural it was going to feel to cut in only one direction at first!). But once I got the hang of it I decided to do a little bit of a test—I filleted one scup in the western style and then another with this deba; the deba produced an objectively better fillet with less wasted meat.
This PARTICULAR knife is really gorgeous (in a rustic sort of way) and well-made, although I did find that it wasn't as sharp out of the box as I wanted it to be, but that was an easy fix. It's also not as heavy as other debas, so if you're looking for heft I'd suggest a more substantial knife. That said, it does everything a deba needs to do and it does it very cleanly, and the lighter blade makes it very a very nimble knife. Highly recommend. Was this rating helpful to you?
