CKTG is very pleased to be representing this fledgling knife maker from Kashiwa-City, Japan. Goko are relatively new to the knife world especially in comparison to some of the century-old makers, but in this short time they have become regarded as a manufacturer of fine blades at very affordable prices.

The nakiri featured here is a perfect example of their philosophy. Utilizing a core of white #1 steel with a stainless cladding, the Goko nakiri is made with a slightly asymmetric edge grind. The steel is hardened to 60 HRC. A lovely rustic finish and a new, upgraded walnut and pakka wood octagonal handle complete the package. (See the main picture for new handle!) All this adds up to a blade fit for the busy line cook, home chef, or knife aficionado in search of value and quality. A great buy!

    5  great knife, April 7, 2017

I have a tojiro santoku in white #2 and love it, have used it as my daily knife for years. But I wanted to try a white #1 blade and since I mainly use my blades for veg prep the nakiri seemed like the perfect style for the future.
This blade rocks, the fit and finish is excellent as is the balance. And since it is W#1 it takes a screaming edge very easily.
It did chip a bit at first, which surprised me, but Mark told me the edge was specially heat treated by Goko an would calm down after a visit to my stone. Exactly the case. This is exactly what I wanted would buy it another Goko blade without hesitation

I bought this as my introduction to Japanese knives. I have a couple of German steel knives and a vintage carbon steel chef knife. I chose the nakiri because it seemed the most different. It is a pleasure to use. I learned how important the profile of the blade is. This thing makes short work of a head of cabbage or a potato. I'm now deciding what my second Japanese knife will be.
