Sharpal Leather Honing Strop with Compound

The Sharpal 204N is a stropping block built for the last step in a sharpening sequence, after the edge has already been set on stones. The working surface is genuine cowhide leather, vegetable-tanned and fine-ground to a smooth, flat finish, mounted to a solid beech wood block measuring 8" x 3". Stropping does not remove significant material the way a stone does; it realigns the apex of the edge and polishes the bevel, which is why it comes after sharpening rather than in place of it.

A 4-point anti-slip rubber base keeps the block stationary on a work surface during use, and an included angle guide helps hold a consistent stropping angle stroke to stroke. The kit includes a 2 oz bar of green buffing compound, a fine chromium oxide and aluminum oxide abrasive that is worked into the leather before stropping to speed up polishing and produce a mirror finish on the edge.

Use and Care Instructions: Apply the green compound to the leather surface in a thin, even layer before use; a small amount goes a long way. Strop away from the edge, trailing the spine, never leading with the edge into the leather. Reapply compound periodically as it wears down with use. Store the block dry and away from direct sun to keep the leather from drying out or cracking.
