The Sharpal 205H puts two different stropping surfaces on one wood handled block: an 8.5 in x 2.25 in (215 x 60 mm) cowhide leather surface that is smooth on one side and suede on the other. The suede side is generally better suited to initial stropping and light edge correction on a beveled edge, while the smooth side is used for final polishing and refining, particularly on low angle edges such as straight razors. Which side to start on depends on the condition of the edge and the finish being chased, and most users move from suede to smooth over the course of a session.
The kit ships with a 2 oz bar of green buffing compound and an Angle Pyramid guide integrated with four preset angles: 14, 17, 20, and 25 degrees, so the stropping angle can be matched to whatever angle the edge was sharpened at rather than guessed by feel. A lanyard hole in the 13.25 in wood handle allows for hanging storage.
Use and Care Instructions: Apply green compound sparingly to whichever leather side is in use. Strop trailing the spine, away from the edge, never leading the edge into the leather. Move from the suede side to the smooth side as the edge refines over a stropping session. Store dry and out of direct sunlight to protect the leather.
