The Imanishi 400 Stone is a quick cutting stone with a very nice and consistent feel. It's one of the better low grit stones we offer and prefer it slightly over the Beston 500 and Chosera 400. 205mm x 75mm x 25mm and weighs 2.2 pounds (about 1 kg)

I've only used this once but it really does seem to react very strongly to the angle you're holding the bevel at and the pressure you're using. It's firm but not overly hard, if that makes sense. It's a good cutter, what you expect from a 400, without being a wild beast about it. I'm trying to get better at interpreting the feedback to achieve better consistency, and this could be helpful with that.

I was sharpening with a 1000 and then 5000 stone; and just added this 400 one.
Maybe it's me, but this makes a big difference. I'm able to get a really good edge with just this and then finish it off with the other two.
Didn't think this was necessary, but it's a GREAT thing.
Soak for about 5 minutes and then good-to-go.
Highly recommended.

first off this stone is really thick and an unbelievable value. It is very hard amd consistent, maybe not the fastest stone but it keeps you out of trouble. For a 400 grit stone it actually leaves a usable edge. I use this as my go to for fixing chips or starting a new bevel

I just got this stone and have only used it for a few knives so far but was so impressed that I felt the need to review it. I've tried many lower grit water stones and like others have had a hard time finding one that I really liked. I believe I just found it in this stone. It's a fairly hard stone that cuts improbably fast for its grit rating and also feels very nice while doing it, very nice feedback for how coarse it is. It leaves a nice crisp edge for a 400 that i could fairly easily shave with. I didn't have any problems with loading even when it started to dry out a little bit. It's really everything I want in a 400, a fast cutting stone with great feedback that leaves a crisp edge ready for refinement with the next stone of your choice. I currently have a beston 500, shapton pro 320 and cerax 320(hate that stone but that's another story) and I can immediately tell that I prefer this stone over any of them. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a good 400. Seems to be a great value, I think this stone will last a long time.

My favorite sub-800 grit stone. Remarkable feedback for a low grit. I can set a bevel very quickly with this, usually in just 3 or 4 passes. Doesn't load up much and cleans off very easily.

  Late 400

This stone is a great value! It removes metal very quickly for its grit rating yet leaves a fairly refined edge. A contender with the Chosera 400 and Shapton Glass 500, for sure. Feedback is where this stone shines, along side pure metal removal for its grit. A great stone for small chips and light thinning but it shines at working with really dull blades. It will do your heavy lifting before a 1k or even in its stay! You can jump to a 2-3k stone after this 400 grit, easy. It takes at least 10 minutes to soak but it will keep bubbling for about 30 or so. A great value!

very pleasant stone! This stone has very nice feel to it while using it. cuts quick, doesn't dish too quickly however is a little softer than what I am used to. the softness however allows it to be quite muddy which allows for very nice kasumi finishes on wide bevels. great stone for maintenance, however if you are looking to take chips out or fix tips then go for something rougher! pretty much exactly what you want in a 400

I got this stone because my progression went from a 150 grit to 1000 grit stone, and I often felt like I needed something in between. I must say I really like this stone, it seems to work very fast but leaves a finish that cleans up easily, especially when I am comparing to a 150 grit stone. I had liked using my 1000 grit stone as my starting place for resharpening knives, this stone has taken over that job, as it does it faster. I really like this stone, the color gives you a good idea of how much metal you are removing and I find it feels very smooth to use. I recommend this stone to anyone, and would like to try more of them.
