What many users call the “Green Brick of Joy,” this is the 2K Aotoshi from Naniwa. This stone is fine enough for many applications in the kitchen. It will leave your knife with an edge better than most factory edges. This stone cuts quickly and is great for setting up the edge for further refinement on stones like the 5000. It measures 210mm x 70mm x 55mm.

  Much finer than 2k, February 28, 2023
Posted By: Brandon

I have been wanting this stone for a while. Nice stone, no need to soak and the feel is amazing. However, this is much finer than 2k. I would say the finish is more like 5-6k. Very shiny. It's nice for a higher grit stone but disappointed as I wanted a 2k brick.

I'm not a huge fan of Naniwa for reasons I won't get into but after hearing about this stone for so long I decided to grab one. This stone really has an excellent feel to it, I personally wouldn't classify the feedback as great but it's good enough. It feels very "forgiving" and smooth. It's harder than I expected to be honest. If you aren't a heavy handed sharpener you shouldn't have any problems with gouging or snow plowing this stone. This stone is capable of a finer finish than its 2k rating would suggest but at the same time it removes material fairly quickly (on the right steels). I've found it's at its best with cheap stainless steels and carbon steel that's not excessively hard. It really puts an excellent edge on your average western stainless kitchen knives. It doesn't do so hot with rich, high carbide steels though in my experience with it. It can do it but there are better options. I use it as a splash and go, it does not need a soak in my experience with it. It will drink a little bit and then it holds water on the surface very well. I'm pretty impressed with it, especially its ability to both touch up and finish stainless steels in one go

  Can' wait to try

Have read only good reviews about the Big Green Brick. Since I am new to sharpening I am waiting to use this once I have more experience in hand sharpening. "Looks like the beginning of a beautiful relationship"

  Crazy awesome stone...

This stone is a dream to use. I have always been partial to splash 'n' go stones, but sort of hate how things they can be. Got this one on a whim, as well as a Cerax 1000, and haven't been anything but super impressed. Buy this stone...do it.

I found this large 2000 grit stone a very good sharping stone, used on hard stainless steel blades.
Also the service and placing of the order also the quick shipping from Chef Knives to Go was really good.

  Great Green stone of Joy.

Order was processed with no problems stone was well protected for rough handling during shipping, as i has asked for and stone was quickly shipped.
I have tested this stone on cheap really hard stainless steel knife blades, and i quickly noticed this 2000 Grit stone was really getting blade metal into the water.
With very little work i obtained sharp blades that will work fine for my needs, i find this stone to be a very good and useful stone.

  New favorite stone

Quick cutting, seems to work itself into a mid 3k polish. 20 knives in with no cupping, quick consistent results. And huge! I doubt I need another 2k stone anytime soon, this one will be around forever!

  Super smooth

OK, this is actually fun to sharpen knives with. I am amazed at the finish I get with this stone. The knife slides so smoothly over the stone, but you can see the dark mud building up, so you know it is working. It leaves a mirror finish on it, so I don't even use the 8000 stone I have.

I thought I would try this thing. My usual progression has always been a1K (for anything but a chip) , followed by either a 5K or 6K and then depends on what I want to do. I put my Reeves pocket knife to this thing tonight (only knife I've sharpened on it yet) and this is a beast. Relatively soft (good mud for a 2K really fast) and it cuts nearly as fast as my 1K stones but feels much finer. Puts an edge that feels better than it should on a knife quickly - even a 64 HRC powder steel blade got pretty shiny fast. I think my new 1K and 1200 stones have a brother in arms - this thing is every bit as good as the hype. Big thick stone that will last long enough to give to the next generation (when I'm too old to sharpen any more) and is a pleasure to use. Thanks again CKTG - seems everything I get from you is better than advertised

Love the stone. I use splash and go, don't soak just use spray bottle. And I finish up with a chosera 5000 leaves a nice polish

  Warning: Better than expected!

Okay I know I leave good reviews on everything. But this stone is just...oh my goooood good. Handles and responds like my j-nats (heavily biased for J-nats btw), leaves a near mirror edge, and forms an excellent slurry with a nagura. I sharpened my aogami 300mm Tanaka yanagi, 270mm Kanetsune Seki Yanagi, 180mm Tamahagane Deba, 570mm 5160 maguro bocho, 360mm Sakai Kikumori Gyuto, and Whustof Pro 10 in chef knife on this stone today after my Amakusa stone inside of 2 hours. I don't have enough good things to say! It is a bit on the soft side so I would advise caution when nearing the tip or heel of a knife, found out the hard way and had to resurface it a bit. This will be a permanent fixture in my collection.

Very good stone and excellent economics

This is a very nice stone that is incredible for the money. It's soft and has a very smooth feel when sharpening with it. I prefer the slightly harder feel of the Chosera stones, but this is good and leaves a very clean edge.

This is a very interesting stone. Starts off cutting like a 1000 grit stone, and when a little mud builds up and begins to dry it finishes like a 4000 or 5000 grit stone. For my German chefs, utility and boning knives, I start on a Chosera 800, then move to this one, and this is where I finish those knives. Enough polish for edge retention, but just the right amount of toothiness for push cutting fatty meats. This is my primary sharpening stone instead of a normal 1000 grit stone.
