I stropped it on the white pages of a phone book and now it's really running clean through the paper and the edge is nice and shiny. I really like this handle, which is why I sprung for it over the nice entry-line series that CKTG has. The octagonal shape allows one to really get a sense of the angle of approach. My only criticism has to do with the finish. It's very smooth as mentioned, and more than this, a small section at the end has already started to flake off. Better to leave the wood raw and allow us to apply oil in my opinion. Balance seems good as to the pinch point as described for this style of knife, but I would prefer a denser wood with more weight in the handle. Again, this is my first Japanese knife, so maybe my view as to the handle density will change with continued use. Looking forward to picking up the 120mm Buho when its back in stock.
