Megumi, meaning “blessing,” is the second line of knives by Yu Kurosaki that we have introduced on our site. Kurosaki is a young blacksmith from Takefu who is producing some very high caliber kitchen knives. His work was first introduced to the Western market through Masakage where he produces one of their higher end lines in W#2 and the company’s ultra-high end line in Aogami Super. Working under his own label, he offers the Megumi line using a core of expertly treated VG-10 with stainless Damascus cladding and hammered finish. The grinds on his knives are excellent with a pronounced 50/50 convex geometry that gets very thin behind the edge.

The 210mm gyuto performs insanely well. It gets thinner at the tip than its bigger brother in 240mm, making it a tremendous performer through ingredients like onions. The great grind on the knife also allow it to plow through even the densest of produce without any wedging or sticking whatsoever. These are great stainless knives that have quickly become a popular choice on our site.

5  Beautiful to look at, amazing to use., May 19, 2017

My wife purchased this blade for my birthday and I was not disappointed. I had been looking for a low maintenance Japanese knife to replace my 20 year old German blade. This blade by Kurosaki has great balance and no sharp edges anywhere where it is handled. My only knock is the edge out of the box which looked like it was a machine grind and not extraordinary. I took it to my man Albert here in Seattle and he recognized the Kanji engraved in the blade and had nothing but praise for the blacksmith. The edge is now amazingly sharp and makes quick work anything I prep. Again, I cannot convey how beautiful this knife is. The hammer finish and layering of the steel is top notch and the handle is perfectly fit and very comfortable. Chef Knives To Go got my knife to me in short order and was easy to order through as well.

Awesome Knife! Best out of the box edge so far. You can tell the talent of the knife maker. Fit and finish are amazing. I recently purchased a Masakage for way more money and the Kurosaki is so much sharper and nicer.

Excellent build quality, pretty sharp edge OOTB. This is my first Japanese knife and I can confidently say that it is one of the best knives I've ever owned. The day I got this in the mail, I was so impressed by its performance OOTB that I ordered the 150mm petty within the hour.
