SRS-15 is a powdered steel from Japan and is an excellent choice for use in kitchen knives. The steel has added Tungsten and Vanadium which contributes to its excellent wear resistance characteristics. SRS-15 also contains 1.5% concentration of carbon for hardness. The steel has the ability to take an acute edge when correctly heat treated. While many knife makers heat treat this steel to 64 HRC, lowering the hardness just a little will add to its toughness. The blade is clad with a layer of softer stainless steel for protection and strength.

Our Richmond SRS-15 Gyuto 240mm is a really well balanced chef knife. Weighing in at the middle of these kinds of knife. It has a fairly thin blade which includes a lovely distal taper ending in a very thin tip. This is a superior grind at the price point.

The thin but well made Pakka wood handle is mated to a stainless bolster with excellent fit and finish. This is almost a hybrid of a western and Japanese style knife. The balance point is right at the bolster and is a great choice for regular or pinch grippers. The edge is really sharp out of the box and the knife has an almost laser like feel to it, without the very light feel of true lasers.

The Richmond SRS-15 Gyuto is a true all rounder. Nimble. Tough. Easy to maintain and sharpen. This is a knife that is at home in any professional or domestic kitchen. Prepare to be impressed!
