ABS Journeyman Bladesmith Steve Grosvenor hails from South Dakota. He makes some very interesting and unusual knives under the banner of Red Rock Tools. One of his favorite steels is the evergreen tool steel known as AISI 52100. 52100 was developed for use in industrial bearings and has excellent wear resistance and strength. It also makes an excellent knife blade as a mono steel construction or it can be san-mai welded with other steels. Steve uses a stock removal method to form this blade and hardens the steel to 62 HRC.
Fillet knives are ideal for processing fish because the thinness and shape of the blade allows for a more efficient removal of the skin. This is a classic rendition of this style of blade. It is long and flexible with a sharp point allowing for easy skin penetration. It has a nice sweep to the blade and at 180mm long it is a perfect tool for most small to medium size fish.
The elegantly curved blade is mated to a beautifully shaped western style handle made from stabilized custom handle. As an added bonus the knife is furnished with a fine leather sheath.
