Takeda knives need no introduction to most, if not all, kitchen knife lovers. They are among the most unique and recognizable blades coming out of Japan: super thin, over-sized, tall, and with a full kurouchi finish. Takeda has clad the AS core of the blade with softer stainless steel to ease maintenance, reduce reactivity, and generally provide a more user friendly knife without sacrificing any performance. Aogami Super Steel is a high carbon alloy containing several additional elements, including tungsten, vanadium, chromium, molybdenum, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and silicon. These additives endow the steel with an ability to take a very acute edge angle and hold that edge better than many other popular carbon steels. It also scores highly in the easy-to-sharpen category.

This blade is a true featherweight, when one considers the ultra-tall profile and the associated amount of steel that is required to create it. Takeda puts some seriously acute edge bevels on this knife which is made possible by the wonderful steel at the core. Each blade holds its edge extraordinarily well and resharpens easily. All his knives have 50/50 edges so they are good for either right-handed or left-handed users.
