- verified customerKarakus seem to be like Tojiros, but more so. What I mean is that Tojiro is known for having knives of decent steel and heat treat at a relatively low price. The trade off is that fit and finish aren't always there.Karaku uses a much better steel than Tojiro, using AS. The knife came relatively dull, but it took only a few minutes to get it to the point of push cutting newspaper. It performs well, though more of a utility knife than a mini-gyuto.The drawback is the fit and finish. The ferrule is plastic and not flush with the handle. There are machining marks on the blade. If cosmetics are not your main concern, this is a good buy. It would be hard to find an AS petty at a lower price.
