F. Dick was founded in 1778 by Johann Friedrich Dick to manufacture files. In 1873 the company moved on to making sharpening steels and to this day is still a fully family-owned business. F. Dick is now renowned as the premier steel manufacturer in Germany.
These steels are hardened to 66 HRC and then surface coated to prevent corrosion. In fact the cuts on each steel are created using files also produced by the F. Dick company. Every steel produced is given a rigorous quality check before it receives the "F. DICK Made in Germany” stamp.
The F Dick 12" Regular Cut Steel is able to sharpen, hone, and smooth most knives, it measures 12" in length, and features a round shape for ease of use. The steel comes with a plastic handle that affords a secure and comfortable grip and an attached ring for hanging the steel between uses.
The steel should be used when the blade has a slightly folded edge or has just started to become dull. Steels will not sharpen a very dull blade so these should be used regularly on your knives to prevent premature dulling.
