Sukenari is located in the Toyama Prefecture in central Japan. They have been crafting exceptional kitchen knives for over 50 years. Their reputation is built upon an ability to forge some of the finest steels using techniques that have been employed for generations by the great sword makers. The hardest of these techniques to master is that of honyaki blade making.

Honyaki translates as ďtrue forgedĒ from Japanese. Honyaki blades are made from a single piece of metal, as opposed to san-mai blades that are made from two or more layers of steel. They are incredibly difficult to make and thus are more expensive than other types. But the rewards are many, including a higher hardness rate and superior edge holding.

This is a lovely petty, one of the nicest we carry. The highly polished finish accentuates the stunning hamon which results from the differential hardening of the blade. At 165mm, the shape is long and thin, with a fine tip that gives you the ability to make the most intricate and delicate slices and cuts. As with all honyaki style blades, it is stiff and offers control unlike any other small knife.

Itís not cheap. But you truly get what you pay for with this little beauty. Craftsmanship beyond reproach. An aesthetic look that even non knife enthusiasts will be amazed by. And a level of finesse in use and execution that is at the top of the tree.
