I really debated on cleavers, and being my first cleaver purchase I really struggled with spending a lot of money on a knife I wasn't sure I'd love. So after a lot of reading of reviews and ultimately winding up on this site I decided on the Sugimoto because of the company's history and then on the #30 because of the cost and other reviews. I can tell you now after using the cleaver for a few weeks that a) I really like using a cleaver for prep work and b) I am not disappointed at all on the decision to go with the #30 vs the #6. I can see myself being happy with this cleaver for a while and maybe upgrading down the road. If you're looking to try out a cleaver you won't go wrong with this choice.
