That being said, the Shun Classic 4" paring knife is a wonderful piece of kit. It arrives properly sharp and can get sharper yet with only a little coaxing. Like I said earlier, the extra 1/2" length is a blessing for me personally. My previous 3.5" paring knife would nearly disappear under my sausage fingers. The fit and finish is excellent and, I have to add, the QC at Shun seems to be top notch (at least based on this example) because the small choil and spine have a nice little radius on the edge where most other brands leave a burr from machining/cutting. Well done!
My only gripe with this knife is that the handle is a bit small, but what can you expect. It would look and, more importantly, function awful to have this blade attached to the same handle that's on my 240mm gyuto. So, less of a gripe on the knife and more of me complaining of huge hand syndrome.
All in all, I would highly recommend this knife (given the caveats mentioned above) for someone looking for an ever-so-slightly oversized paring knife!
