We are working exclusively with a third generation blacksmith in Japan to produce these knives. The Richmond Hamon is made from Blue #1 steel with HRC 62 hardness. They are san mai (clad) blades with soft iron. These have a real hamon forged into the blades that is revealed during the polishing process. The knife was designed for heavy use with a long lasting edge.
Fantastic bang for your buck! This is not to say it is poorly made. Fit and finish is spot on. This knife has a similar feel to a mioroshi deba. However,it is versatile enough to use as a gyutou for even vegetable prep. I would buy this knife again.
