The name Artifex is Latin for artisan or worker and we designed the knife specifically for people in the food service industry that need a great blade that is tough, versatile and wallet friendly.

The scimitar is a blade that is coveted by knife enthusiasts and professionals alike. It is regarded as an alternative to a butchers knife, particularly useful in processing large animal carcasses. We use a stainless steel called AEB-L for the blade, so while the knife will take a very keen edge just like the best carbon steels, you don't have to worry about rusting or corrosion. We hardened this steel to 60.5-61 for the ideal combination of hardness and toughness.

We designed this knife to be very thin with a nice sized handle made of black linen micarta with a classic 2 rivet design. The handle is very stable and is designed to give you years of worry free use. Finally, this knife is made right here in the United States with our partner Lamson And Goodnow. The factory edge grind is 50/50 at about 15 degrees on each side. We priced this knife aggressively so line cooks, knife enthusiasts and students could afford it.

Bought 2, one was excellent, the second was poorly ground and needed some work. The fit and finish was good for the price. I wish the height was higher, the pinch grip is a necessity otherwise your knuckles get quite a pounding, while I'm wishing an extra inch or two would be awesome! Overall my coworker and I are happy with them and would not hesitate to buy again. Kudos to the cktg team for excellent service!

This is my 8th Richmond knife and so it goes without saying that I've been very happy with the products so far. I love the scimitar except for its handle which lacks a little bit of size and weight. The knife feels slightly out of balance. Overall though, another wonderful Richmond.

This a great knife, it's super sharp, sharpens easily, and has good corrosion resistance. would have liked a longer handle, but that's just personal preference.
