All Masakage knives are handmade in Japan by blacksmiths selected for their expertise. These Kujira knives have been made by Ken Kageura san, who has been making knives for over 50 years. A 25th generation knife maker from Yusuhara city on the island of Shikoku, Kageura san has a unique way of producing his knives. He re-forges scrap iron for the outer steel from multiple sources, pounding them together before folding them into shape. This creates a really amazing pattern on the blade. He uses #2 Aogami steel with a stainless tang. The handles are oval rosewood with a pakka wood ferrule. Rockwell hardness on these knives is 62:64.
