Japanese waterstones, both natural and synthetic, are known for their quick-working qualities. The small particles made from aluminum oxide that do the cutting are loosely bound together in a clay matrix. During sharpening the surface particles are quickly washed out, thus allowing new, sharp particles to start working on the blade.
King stones are made in Matsunaga, Osaka in Japan. They are one of the oldest and most well known companies selling sharpening stones in the United States. King waterstones are relatively soft and have a comfortable feedback in use because one can see and feel the stone cutting the surface. These types of soft stones must be resurfaced relatively often however, as a hollow quickly develops in use.
The 6000 grit stone is the right choice for final polishing or honing a sharp blade. It is a good stone to use following a sharpening stone like the King Deluxe 1000 grit.
As stones get finer, prices get higher, so this stone represents a good balance of cost and performance. For someone starting out in hand sharpening, the King 6000 grit waterstone is all you need to complete those final polishing steps with ease and confidence. Comes with a plastic base.
210mm x 73mm x 22mm.

The king 6K and the Shapton Glass 6k are the best of the five different 5K/6K waterstones I have used.
CKTG is at heart a small business so the service is personal. They are one of the rare companies that actually dispatch the order the same day as receiving it and provide tracking information. It is great to deal with an individual by name and itís evident that they take pride and love in what they do.
Had a problem with one of the products and they went out of their way to resolve. I would highly recommend dealing with this company. Itís nice to find a company who cares and they will get me as a return customer.
Mark is great at answering questions for knife nuts of all levels. His service is second to none. Really appreciate the time he puts into every email as well as the free forum he hosts.
Great experience working with Chef Knives to Go. Quick delivery, and they are great about returning emails. I'm actually waiting on my second knife from them. I'm sure there will be more to come.
