Do not think of this as a German knife. It is in every aspect,a Japanese knife. These Cermax handles are a little heavy,so if you are a traditional wa handle fan,it may take getting used to. The handle shape is rather comfortable. The blade profile has a little belly, but also has a nice flat area. Where this knife sets itself apart from the competition is the steel. The ZDP-189 is top of the line. It can be found in knives costing 5x’s the price. Its edge retention is unmatched, although it is a little chippy- not great for heavy rock chopping/ board crawling. It is a little extra work to sharpen, and can use a little thinning, which is a chore. But,if you want a knife that will remain reasonably sharp forever, this is it! Steel alone gets 5 stars; handle 3; geometry/ profile 3.5.....
