The Richmond line of SRS-15 steel knives is a great place to try out this formidable alloy. SRS-15 is a high Carbon powdered steel with added elements to enhance its overall performance. It is a great steel for knives, exhibiting superior toughness, wear resistance and edge sharpness. The Carbon content is a high 1.5% which is where the hardness and wear resistance comes from. Chromium at 13% gives the steel its stainless properties while the 1.25% Tungsten and 1.5% Vanadium content also contributes to increased wear resistance. Add 2.75% Molybdenum for toughness and you have a great metallurgical balance for a rugged and easy to maintain blade. And one that takes a very steep edge.
The Richmond 150mm Petty is a wonderful small all purpose kitchen knife. It has a typical western style handle made from Pakka wood which is mated to a nicely finished stainless bolster and attached with 3 rivets. The handle is quite thin but very comfortable.
The blade has a 50/50 symmetrical grind which is nicely thinned behind the edge. The attractive Kanji characters add to the up-market look of this easy on the wallet knife. (They mean Mark in Japanese!) The Richmond SRS-15 knives are some of the most surprising stainless steel utensils on the CKTG site in that their construction, finish, and excellent OOTB edge belie their very reasonable price.
Blade length: 147mm (5.78in)
Total length: 255mm (10in)
Spine thickness at base: 2.72mm
Blade height: 29.09mm
CKTG is at heart a small business so the service is personal. They are one of the rare companies that actually dispatch the order the same day as receiving it and provide tracking information. It is great to deal with an individual by name and itís evident that they take pride and love in what they do.
Had a problem with one of the products and they went out of their way to resolve. I would highly recommend dealing with this company. Itís nice to find a company who cares and they will get me as a return customer.
Mark is great at answering questions for knife nuts of all levels. His service is second to none. Really appreciate the time he puts into every email as well as the free forum he hosts.
