We've had a bunch of requests to do this set with balsa pads as the substrates since they are ideal for using with compounds or sprays and easy to maintain. Balsa won't curl at the edges like leather and it has a nice, smooth feel when stropping. Also if it gets cut or dented you can easily sand it flat again and remove old layers of compound.
