Like its smaller 120mm brother, this Goko 150mm petty ticks all the boxes for value, quality, and ease of use and maintenance. Constructed using the popular white #1 steel with a stainless cladding, this lovely knife looks and acts like a far more expensive blade. The stainless cladding aids in rust prevention and food release. The petty now comes with a nice upgraded walnut octagonal handle and a durable pakka wood ferrule, which is pictured, but not featured in the video. The steel is hardened to an HRC of 60 resulting in a blade that is easy to sharpen yet durable in use. All around, the Goko 150mm petty is a fine performer for a very keen price. We recommend this knife for both new Japanese knife users and general kitchen duties.

    WOW is all that comes to mind when I attempt to describe this knife!

    Handle:
    Absolutely blemish free!
    There are no gaps, steps or imperfections anywhere on teh handle.
    If I was forced to pick it a a part... the mating of blade to handle is superb, but not sealed.
    Personally, I believe the handle is just a tad over-sized for this size knife, but it is very very comfortable in the hand. (would be perfect on a 170 santoku or a 210 perhaps).

    Blade:
    The nashiji (pear skin) finish on the blade is beautiful! I've seen Masakage Yukis' and TF's with the same finish, and this little knife will hold it's own among them all.

    The sharpness out of the box was 7/10, but being that's it's White #1 it sharpened very easily and it gets silly sharp! For a 60 HRC white steel the edge retention is also pretty good.

    Performance:
    The food release on the nashiji finish is great!
    I can keep the blade flat, put it through a potato and lift.. and the potato lifts off ethh board about 3/8" and them releases and falls back to the board.

    The tip isn't super thin, but it glides through onions (horizontal cuts), potatoes, radishes and many other items with ease.

    If you prefer a flatter profile... strongly consider the Goko!

    The Goko 150 mm petty is probably the sharpest knife I've ever seen OOTB. The cutting edge was mirror polished and would shave arm hair. I'm left-handed and the D shaped handle is very comfortable. The cutting performance is outstanding and the edge is easy to maintain on higher grit stones. The only thing that isn't that great is the resin ferrule, but overall, it is a high quality knife for the price.
